Thurman D Splawn, 88, of Amarillo, died October 6, 2021, Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at Lagrone Blackburn Shaw, 1505 Martin Rd., with Dr. G.A. Roach officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday October 11, 2021from 5p.m. to 8p.m.

Thurman was born January 24, 1933, In Henderson, Texas. He was the oldest of six children born to Olen and Para Splawn. He grew up in East Texas and later moved to Wichita Falls.

He married Wanda Brock, and a short time later was drafted into the Army at 19 years old, where he served his country during the Korean War. During his time in Korea, his oldest child was born, and seven years later he welcomed his second daughter. Upon returning, he began his career as a bakery man, where he worked as a Production Supervisor, where he was known as "Squeaky" for more than 45 years. He married Sharon Stout and had two more children. He finished his career in Alabama where he became an avid Roll Tide fan. After retiring from the bakery life, he moved back home to Wichita Falls and finally moved back to Amarillo, where he lived the rest of his days.

His life revolved around his children. They were his number one priority throughout his life and to them, he was their foundation. There wasn’t a day in his life that he didn’t talk to at least one of his kids. His sense of humor was the highlight of any conversation. He always had a positive outlook on life and rarely would anyone see his temper. If you were down and out, all you had to do was pick up the phone and by the end of the conversation you were laughing and were back on a high note. He was constantly talking about how he had just got back from jogging even though he had never jogged a day in his life (except boot camp). His favorite pastime was Nascar and college football. He never missed a race.  His NEW favorite team was the North Texas Mean Green, where his granddaughter attended college. His real favorite team was Alabama…Roll Tide, and Jeff Gordon was always the man of the racetrack. There has been a huge hole left in many hearts, but throughout his life, he has filled those hearts with joy and love to overflowing, and that love and his memory will sustain us.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Olen Splawn, and a sister, Wanda Beavers.

Survivors include three daughters, Cheryi Linquist of Amarillo, Lusti Burrow of Montgomery, Alabama, and Tonya Hinojosa and husband Freddie, of Amarillo; a son Thurman D Splawn Jr. and wife Blanche, of Amarillo; five granddaughters, Keisha Laracuente, Cheryii Pickett, Brittney Hinojosa, Chandler Tredway and Jayden Splawn; three grandsons, Chris Linquist, Kelly Linquist and Cylor Splawn; 13 great-grandchildren, Laiken, Paxton, Pierce, Parker, Jaxon, Gavin, Callen, Cade, Colby, Cashlyn, Lillie, Carter and Boston; four sisters, Josie Kerr of Iowa Park, Vernette Hull of Indianola, Iowa, and Norma Lawson, of Wichita Falls; and a brother-in-law, Billy Beavers.
