Steven Anthony Miller

February 22, 1956 — March 17, 2020

Steven Anthony Miller, 64, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on March 17, 2020. Services are pending with First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo.

Born to Vernon Miller and Clara Miller Daniel, Steven was the second oldest of six children. He grew up attending Amarillo and Canyon schools while working at the family restaurant, Bonanza Sirloin Pit. He loved Bonanza and his work family. Known for his dry wit and slapstick humor, Steven “accidentally” dumped co-workers’ purses, hid shoes and showed his affection by giving those around him a “hard time.” These early years were marked by close friendships, deep relationships with his brothers, harmless mischief, and an appreciation for the Marx Brothers and Monty Python.
In 1982, Steven left Bonanza to pursue a 12-year career in car sales. He also studied theatre arts at Amarillo College where he participated in at least nine dramatic plays as an extra including his favorite production, “1776.”
In 1995, Steven started working for JCPenney where he remained for 17 years and found a new work family he loved and a job he truly enjoyed. He was later impacted by a reorganization of the company.
In 2012 Steven felt his calling was to care for his aging parents. And he did just that with daily visits and special weekend activities. During this time, he also worked part time jobs, still establishing new friendships that meant so much to him. His last work family was at Street Toyota.
Steven’s extended family was First Presbyterian Church where he was involved with Bible study groups as well as working security and making cookies. Steven truly valued how much love and grace his church family extended him.
Steven was a dedicated James Taylor fan and enjoyed the personal goal of meeting the entertainer in person. Steven valued personal connections above all else and cultivated relationships with his family, especially his parents, his close friends, his work families and his church family. He always had a joke to tell, a prank to be made, a jig to be danced or a hug to be shared.
Steven was preceded in death by his father Vernon Miller, a sister, Linda Gayle Miller and a brother, Paul Miller.
Steven is survived by a deeply loving family including his mother Clara Daniel and husband Norman of Amarillo/Canyon; his brother Arnold Miller and wife LaDonna of Bartlesville, OK; his brother Edwin Miller and wife Tammy of Amarillo; his sister Eileen Pulliam and husband Ron of Panhandle; and seven nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo or to the ALS Association.
