Stephan J. Ference, 67, of Amarillo passed from this life on Sunday, July 29, 2018. A private family burial was held at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter St.
Stephan was born in August of 1950 in China Lake, California to Julius and Margaret Ference. His family moved to Amarillo in the mid-fifties and he graduated in 1968 from Palo Duro High School. He continued his education at Amarillo College and West Texas State earning his Bachelor of Science degree in 1978. Stephan was employed for many years with Sanders Auto Supply before he became a postal carrier for the USPS from which he eventually retired. Stephan had a keen interest in photography which lead to his passion for traveling with National Geographic Photography tours in Australia, Africa, and Antarctica. He also had a keen interest for racing and attended races at Spa and tracks in the United States. Stephan successfully completed the Bob Bondurant school of High Performance racing, belonged to the Sports Club of America and Porsche Club of America. Stephan enjoyed training with the Aikido Program at Amarillo College.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his brother Brian Ference; sister in law, Neva Piper, and a nephew, Cameron Ference.
