Amarillo

Lonzo “Lonnie” Gladson Davis Jr. was born October 1, 1935 to Gladson Lonzo “Bill” Davis Sr. and Edith Gazzaway Davis, and passed away on March 11, 2021. He graduated from Canyon High School in 1954, and earned an Associate Degree from Amarillo College as an Electronic /Instrument Technician. While in High School, Lonnie joined the United States Naval Reserves in 1953 and served until 1981.  During that time he served in The Vietnam War from 1968-1969 and was promoted to Master Chief in 1974.

He married Sue Carroll Keeling on December 11, 1954 and they were married for 53 years.

Lonnie worked for Pioneer Natural Gas, West Star, Energas, and retired from Cabot Corporation.

Lonnie was a certified scuba diver.  He loved fishing, hunting, and traveling around the world.  He enjoyed making knives. He absolutely adored spending time with his granddaughters and great granddaughters, who all called him “Bud”. His 3 daughters, 3 granddaughters, and 4 great granddaughters are known as “All Bud’s girls” and he was incredibly proud of all of them.  Bud loved to take his girls on journeys… from “alley walkin’”, to “livin’ off the land” in Palo Duro Canyon or at the lake, to trips to see the ocean.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Thomas (Tommy) Davis, a sister, Jean Seymour, and son-in-law, Wayne Carter. He’s survived by three daughters, Rhonda Maxwell and husband, Edgil, of Amarillo, Lauri Mooring and husband, Rick, and Carla Carter, all of Howardwick. Three granddaughters, Shauna Lucas, and husband, Chris, Dana Finley, and husband, Daniel, and Nicole Mooring.  Four great granddaughters, Lauren Weathersby, and husband, Jake, Hunter Finley, Berkley Lucas, and Rylee Finley, and one great great granddaughter on the way! A special friend, Kathy Sistrunk, and several nieces and nephews.
