Lawrence G. Boehning, 93, of Amarillo passed from this life on Friday, March 30, 2018. Lawrence G. Boehning was born the youngest of four boys and one girl belonging to Walter and Anna Boehning on December 15, 1924 in Canyon. He spent the first five or six years of schooling at the little red school house located and still standing on the road to Palo Duro State Park. Following consolidation of schools, he began bus rides to Canyon Independent Schools. After graduating in 1942, he began his education in "the school of Hard Knocks." A brief period of classes was undertaken following a year or so of service in the United States Army and Signal Corp. during WWII. The highlight of his life began on August 6, 1953, when one Frances McNew joined with him in Holy Matrimony in Salinas, California. This happy union produced five children. After surviving fifteen years of dry land farming, in August 1956 application was made and accepted at Amarillo Grain Exchange. He began working some thirty-two years, serving as a sampler for three years followed by about twenty-nine years as chemist and chief chemist in the analytical department. He was a hard worker and never missed a day of work. On July 1, 1988, he and his wife chose retirement and so began a life of ease; choosing to loaf, fish, travel and visit distant kin.

Lawrence loved to go country western dancing and work in the yard. He was always watering something and who could forget "Get off the grass". He also loved to work crossword puzzles (the harder the better) and any other word puzzles. He could always be seen reading the newspaper.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and two grandchildren, Amy Sherrill and David Jackson.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; four daughters, Cathy Baker and wife Constance, Barbara Sherrill and husband Robert, Patsy Kelley and husband John and Margie Moir and husband Scot; one son, Richard Boehning and wife Kaye; fourteen grandchildren, Crystal Mumau, Michael Newby, Shannon Colvin, Karen Cruz, Kenneth McCain, Deedra Clark, Hannah Marx, Jacob Moir, Ian McPhail, Zachery McPhail, Jeremy McPhail, Angela Jones, Joni Bibbs and Brad Jackson; twenty two great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

The family will be receiving friends at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.
