Joyce Keeter

Joyce Keeter, 73 of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. A visitation will be held Friday, September 17, 2021, from 6 pm to 8 pm at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery at 10 am on Saturday, September 18 with Johnathan Mast, pastor at Hillside Christian Church, officiating. Joyce Elaine Browning Keeter was born October 9, 1947, in Borger, Texas, the daughter of Erwin and Burnese Browning. She graduated Palo Duro High School in 1966. Joyce received her B.S. in Sociology from West Texas State University in 1970. She married Robert Keeter on January 24, 1969. After staying home for thirteen years to care for their two young daughters, Joyce applied and was accepted into the Dallas Police Academy. She graduated as part of Recruit Class 172 in 1982. She was promoted to Sergeant of Police in 1988. During her 20-year service to the Dallas Police Department, she served as a Field Training Officer, volunteered as an Explorer Scouts leader, received numerous commendations and in 1984 was awarded a Life Saving Bar. After retiring, Joyce and Robert returned to Amarillo where she stayed busy gardening, walking with friends and watching her granddaughters play sports. She attended Hillside Christian Church where she and Robert volunteered in the coffee shop.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Burnese Browning and sister, Janice Tversky of Amarillo.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Keeter of Amarillo, 2 daughters; Kari Zbinden and husband Chris of Amarillo, Jill Wylie and husband Dave of Sachse, Texas; her brother Dr. Rev. Max Browning of Plainview, Texas; 5 grandchildren; Abigail and Rebecca Zbinden of Amarillo, Kaylee, Sophia and Vivian Wylie of Sachse; as well as 5 nieces, a nephew, their spouses and their children.
