Gus Harris

April 18, 1938 — May 8, 2020

Gus Harris, 82, of Amarillo passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, May 15, 2020 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Reverend Vernon Conner officiating and Reverend Steve Martin delivering the eulogy. Viewing and visitation will be from 1:00 - 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 14, 2020 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Gus was born on April 18, 1938 in Alexandria, Louisiana to Izell Harris Sr. and Lagusta Harris. He married the
love of his life, Mureain Brown on November 21, 1959 in Amarillo. Gus had a strong work ethic as he worked
for the City of Amarillo during the day and the Country Barn restaurant at night. On the weekend, Gus owned and operated Gus' steam cleaning. Gus gave his life to Christ at an early age and worked diligently as a Deacon at Greater Mount Olive Baptist church for many years. Gus was a premier BBQ cook and enjoyed cooking for his friends and family. He also enjoyed going to the Amarillo Speed Bowl every Saturday night with his family, but really Gus was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching all sports and was big Muhammed Ali fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mureain; his son, Charles Ward; four brothers, Authur Berry, Izell Harris Jr., James Harris and Cornelius Harris and his sister, Eloise Harris Hunter.

He is survived by his son, Robert Harris and wife Glenda; his two daughters, Doris Rambo and Emma Crockett; seven grandchildren, Tia Battie-Harris, Myles Harris, Destiny Rambo, Tiffany Crockett, Shenequa Crockett, Channing Ward and Audra Ward; several great grandchildren and other family members.
