Carmen Ortega

Carmen Ortega, 82, of Amarillo passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel with Rev. Harvey Ross Baskett officiating. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road.

Carmen was born on August 16, 1935 in Tlahualilo de Zaragoza, Durango, Mexico. She was married to Natividad Ortega Contreras and together they adopted and raised two daughters whom they loved dearly. She and Natividad were married 59 and a half years until his passing in 2014. Carmen was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone. Her family lovingly remembers her faithfully reading her Bible daily. Carmen had a caring, loving heart and she will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Agustine Favela and Victoria Del Rio and her husband, Natividad and three siblings, Bartola Favela, Leledonio Favela and Zacarias Favela.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Janie Barrera and husband Demetrio of Amarillo and Mireya Ortega of Lincoln Nebraska; five grandchildren, Noemi Ponce, Samuel Barrera, Joel Barrera, Mireya Duran and Linda Duran and five siblings, Jovita Favela, Emma Favela, Crisanta Favela, Juan Favela and Epolito Favela. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
