Bounlay Vongkaysone, 71, of Amarillo passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Buddhist funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 8, 2020 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel. Viewing will be from 1:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, February 7, 2020 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel.
Bounlay was born on March 3, 1948 in Laos to Chandy and Thy Vongkaysone. Bounlay moved to the United States in 1981 settling in Amarillo where he went to work for Tyson Meat as a meat processor until retiring in 2008. Bounlay enjoyed being outdoors and going for walks but he especially loved to go fishing. He was known as "Mr. Fix it Upper" to his family. He was always working on something. Bounlay would make it a point to call his girls every morning so he could tell them "Good Morning".
Bounlay was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Bounthevng; three daughters, Bonnie Chanthalangsy and husband Aum, Jasmine Vongkaysone Apuan and husband Alvin and Khio Vongkaysone and husband Albert Nguyen; his loving niece, Mery; seven grandchildren, Anola, Mekala, Aaron, Liam, Dylan, Dean and Kobe; two sisters, A-Lai and Mani and two brothers, Bounma and Thongsa.
