Bernadine Hall Ghormley

February 13, 1925 – October 13, 2021

Bernadine Ghormley peacefully passed away in Denver Colorado on Wednesday October 13th, at the age of 96.

Bernadine was born in Allen Grove Illinois to Roy & Alvia Clark. She was the youngest of 3 daughters (sisters Opal Sutton and Grace Clark) and all lived on the family farm until the moving to Boulder Colorado in 1940. After graduating from Boulder High School, Bernadine remained in Colorado, where she worked until the end of WWII, when her fiancé, Charles Hall, returned from service with the Army in Europe. Charles & Bernadine were married soon thereafter, and remained in Boulder until Charles finished his engineering degree at The University of Colorado in 1949.  The Hall’s then moved to Amarillo Texas where Charles took the position of Manager of Civil Works for the city, where he remained until his death from natural causes in 1973.  Bernadine remarried in 1979 to Dr. Jess Ghormley of Amarillo Texas. Jess & Bernadine were happily married for 35 years, until Jess passed in 2013.

Bernadine always had a host of friends surrounding and most enjoyed entertaining, traveling and best of all, playing (and winning!) at bridge.  She was a devoted and committed Christian, and spent much time working with and at her Church. Bernadine also volunteered for many years at the Northwest Texas Hospital, and sincerely felt that this was her most enjoyable of “occupations”.

Bernadine is survived by her two children, Andrea Baldwin of Denver Colorado and Charles Hall (Melissa) of Houston Texas; her four step-children, Tod Ghormley (Mimi) of Conway Arkansas, Christopher Ghormley (Robin) of Lompoc California, Jana Ghormley Boss of Dallas Texas and Jason Ghormley (MaryAnn) of Plano Texas; as well as the beloved 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service in remembrance of Bernadine’s life will be celebrated in Amarillo Texas at 11:00am on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Llano Cemetery, 2900 S. Hayes Street.
