Alice Wynonna Rice

Alice Wynonna Rice, 94, of Canyon, TX  passed away May 13, 2023 surrounded by family. Born on February 11, 1929 in Wildorado Texas to Joseph and Deelia Galbraith, Alice married Ralph Rice on October 19, 1948; a farmer until passing in 1992. She was a member of the Palo Duro Baptist Church for 84 years where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, VBS, and served in many other capacities. Her children, grandchildren, church, and community were her life’s work while serving, loving, and giving to all. Alice enjoyed reading everything (from her Bible to her junk mail), tending to her flowers and bluegrass music. She made the best cinnamon toast, french fries, fried chicken and personalized birthday cakes. She always carried Juicy Fruit in her purse so the smell saturated its contents.

Alice loved living at Palo Duro Village Retirement Apartments in Canyon. It was a community of good neighbors & friends to share time together inspiring them all with her dedication to walk that mile every day outside or inside as weather allowed. She could sit on a porch swing in peace for hours without a word but when she spoke, words often came out this way: “I’ve had a good life. I don’t know why God has been so good to me, but He has. He gave me the best family and friends in the world...”

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, and son Kenneth Paul Rice. She is survived by her daughter, Roxanne Schenk, (Louis), a son, Craig Rice, (Cindy), Grandchildren;  Miranda Bolden (Alan), Darcie Richardson (Kevin), Corrie Williamson (Blake), Brady Schenk (Megan), Kendra Meador and Kalena Yawn, Great Grandchildren; Macie George (Jayson), Emily Bolden, Tyler Richardson, Jacob Richardson, Cooper Richardson, Keila Williamson (Josh Holden), Hansen Williamson, Riley Schenk, Graham Schenk, Kaleigh Carlton (Brad), Kutter Meador, Keelyn Meador, Kreely Meador, Krockett Meador and Trevor Yawn.
