Wesley Lee Busby, 88, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas. Born on December 21, 1937, in Plainview, Texas, Wesley lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and numerous passions.
Wesley was the beloved son of Otha Tilmon and Lillie Belle (Bounds) Busby. He had twin brothers, Paul Tilmon Busby and Vinon Hildon Busby, who preceded him in death. Wesley married the love of his life, Sallie Jo Murphy, on 8/16/1957 in Wellington, TX, with whom he shared many cherished years before her passing. Together they built a legacy of love and devotion that continues to thrive through their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A man of many talents and interests, Wesley was known for his hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. He built and owned a family cabin at Black Lake Resorts in Colfax County, New Mexico—a place where countless memories were made. He also established the Yellow Rock Square Dance Center in Amarillo, Texas, combining his passion for square dancing with his knack for creating spaces that bring people together. Additionally, Wesley operated an engraving business that showcased his craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Wesley proudly served in the Army National Guard and carried the values of service and discipline throughout his life. A devout member of Amarillo First Nazarene Church, he found strength in his faith and community.
An avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast, Wesley enjoyed fishing in serene waters and exploring the mountains. He was a skilled carpenter who took pride in building not only structures but also lasting relationships. His competitive spirit shone through as a tennis player and volleyball player; he also loved cheering on football and baseball teams. Wesley’s playful side came alive during games of cards, dominoes, Wahoo, or while piecing together intricate jigsaw puzzles. He and Sallie Jo enjoyed attending many functions to participate in square dancing.
Above all else, Wesley treasured time spent with his family. He is survived by his cousin Ron Love of Amarillo, Texas, his in laws Mary Lou (Holton) and Rod Kane and family of Wellington, Texas, brother in law Truitt Holton and family of Tulia, Texas, his children: Rod and Cindy Busby of Dalhart, Texas; D-Nan Fink of Amarillo, Texas; Edye and Richard Holland of Ardmore, Oklahoma; as well as his grandchildren: Lindy and Ryan Beattie of Dalhart; Jamie Heiskell of Dalhart; Jeff Heiskell of Dalhart; Michael Simpson of Amarillo; Abby Holland of Ardmore; Ryan Fink of Amarillo; and great-grandchildren: Brycen Heiskell (and fiancée Liberty Bell) of Dalhart; RyLeigh Beattie of Dalhart; Justin Beattie of Dalhart; Korie Heiskell of Dalhart; Wesley Heiskell of Dalhart; William Heiskell of Dalhart; Barrett Beattie of Dalhart; Ana Simpson; Jessie Simpson. His family will forever cherish the memories they created together under his loving guidance.
Wesley was preceded in death by several dear family members who held special places in his heart: his parents, Otha Tilmon and Lillie Belle (Bounds) Busby; brothers Paul Tilmon Busby and Vinon Hildon Busby; wife Sallie Jo Busby; son-in-law Bert Fink; and sister-in-law Toni Holton.
Wesley's legacy is one defined by warmth, determination, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. His memory will live on through the lives he touched, whether through a shared laugh over a game or the enduring structures he built with care.
May those who knew him find comfort in remembering the joy he brought into their lives.
