Wanda Mae Beauregard

May 27, 1924 — October 11, 2013

Wanda Mae Geer was born and raised in Amarillo; and graduated from the original Amarillo HS in 1941.  Soon after, she met the man of her dreams, a soon-to-be Army hero named Ken.  They were married and settled in Amarillo after the war; and became typical, post-war parents of the fifties.  Life on Alabama Street was always good; everyone on the block contributed to social activities; Christmas tree flocking, and creativity and imagination abounded. Wanda was an excellent cook, so food preparation and new recipes (whole roasted pig and "Tom & Jerry's") were at the center of every gathering to make it special.  She had a knack for sewing, as most women did, and was familiar with all the latest  styles.  She had a fondness for potted plants, and her bay window stayed full and lush with an assortment of beautiful green plants and blooming flowers.

The Beauregards adopted and endorsed the values that we attribute to that simple, by-gone era:  hard work, modest lifestyle, and basic living focused on family members.  These are the values they instilled in their boys, Max and Dean, and are the core beliefs that they have aspired to as adults.

Yet, this family has not been without squabbles and conflict like any other, but Wanda had the shrewd prowess to avoid taking sides and to negotiate peace amongst all members, especially recently as the family grew and diversified.  In later years, she enjoyed watching her family expand with grandchildren and great grand children.  Wanda and Ken were always accepting of the family “as is”, and readily accepted its quirks, especially those with alternative lifestyles.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ken; and a son, Dean.  She is survived by her son, Max, of Houston; a daughter in law, Janis of Amarillo; a grand daughter Deana Edwards and husband Terry, of Palo Pinto; a grandson B.J. Blackmon and wife Tessa of Amarillo; three great grandsons, one great granddaughter, and another great granddaughter is due in early November.

We are grateful for our wonderful family and Panhandle friends, especially the the bond of neighbors that has become the legacy of Alabama Street, which continues today with the strong friends who support us now.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30pm on Tuesday October 15, 2013 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2013  at the Llano Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with the Chaplain Sherman Eastland of Odyssey Hospice officiating.
