Virginia "Mickey" Eytcheson

March 27, 1934 — August 7, 2025

Amarillo

Virginia (Mickey) Eytcheson, 91 of Amarillo passed peacefully in her sleep August 7th, 2025. Mickey was born in Stratford, Texas on March 27th 1934, to parents Gerdis Gunnels and Pansy Gunnels. Mickey moved with the family to Long Beach, California when she was 12. She was a “beach bum.” The beach was her first love. Later the family relocated to Amarillo, Texas. There she met and married O.J. Barton. To this union, three kids were born, Barbara, Larry and #1 son, Price. Later she met and married Jack Eytcheson, Sr, on October 7, 1989. They enjoyed 32 wonderful years together until Jack’s passing in 2021. Mickey loved the outdoors, whether it was working in her yard, play days at Rolling Hills Riding Club, or camping anywhere they could. She worked and retired from Park Place Towers, where she met and made life-long friends. She also enrolled at Amarillo College and received many accolades. This lady was never still. At 88, she was still weed eating her yard. She was a 72-year member of River Road Baptist Church (now New Hope Fellowship at River Road). She loved her church and her church family, and they loved her back..

She was pre deceased by her parents and brother Owen Gunnels, brother Lewis Gunnels, sister Geraldine (Gerry), and Grandson, Casey Barton.

Mickey is survived by her daughter, Barbara of Kerens, Texas, her son, Larry Barton of Dallas, and Price Barton (Glenda) of Canadian, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren, Denise Prescott of Houston, Shawnee Merriman (Mike) of Coronado, California, Halley Fletcher (Kyle) of North Richland Hills, and Brandi Alsip (Frank) of Piedmont, Oklahoma. Also mourning her loss are her great grandchildren Gavan Prescott of Houston, Megan Prescott of Houston, Charlie Grace Merriman, Dylan Merriman, Graham Merriman and Zadie Merriman all of Coronado, California, and Presley Alsip, Jackson Alsip and Ryan Alsip all of Piedmont, Oklahoma, Wes Fletcher and Landry Fletcher of North Richland Hills, Texas.

The family would like to mention her very special friend, Sharon Eytcheson. Our special friend I should say. And a very heartfelt “Thank you” to Audy and Marianne Jones. These 2 angels go above and beyond. I don’t know what I would have done without you the last 3 years! We love you both.

Funeral services for Mickey are scheduled for August 13th at 10:00 am at New Hope Fellowship Church, 8605 River Drive. The family will receive friends for a viewing will on Tuesday, August 12th at LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter road chapel from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
