Tom Douglas Dawdy, age 67, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on July 14, 2025. A memorial service for Tom will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter chapel.
Tom was born on December 6, 1957, to Dick and Carol Ann Dawdy. He was a proud graduate of Canyon High School and attended West Texas State University. Around 1981, he migrated to the gulf coast of Texas, where he bartended and worked as a deckhand. Eventually, he became a captain of boats that serviced offshore drilling rigs. He stayed for many years before returning home to stay. He was a skilled carpenter, known for his craftsmanship and dedication to his work. Tom also held a variety of other jobs throughout his life including cattle operations and farming.
Tom was married to the late Tammy Jo Dawdy, with whom he shared many cherished years. He is survived by his daughter, Brandy Harris and husband Brandon of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Kallie Harris and Jackson Harris of Amarillo; his sister, Stephanie Dawdy Hager and husband Ronnie of Canyon, his stepmom, Ann Clary of Amarillo and his step siblings, Greg Root and wife Candy of Amarillo, Cindy Getschow and husband George of Flower Mound and Holly Schreur and husband Mike of Canyon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tammy, and his parents Dick Dawdy and Carol Ann Root and his stepdad, Norris Root.
A man of quiet strength and hard work, Tom’s legacy lives on in the family he loved and the work he built with his hands.
