Tanh Vongkaysone, 87, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with his family by his side. Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors.

Tanh was born on May 10, 1939, in Vientiane, Laos. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Toh. Fleeing the Vietnam War, together they bravely brought their six children to the United States in search of safety, freedom, and a better life. They left behind everything and everyone they knew to start over in a new country and worked hard to build a future for their family.

Tanh was a man of strength, determination, and sacrifice. He worked hard throughout his life, taking on various jobs while also tending to his greenhouse as another means of supporting his family. The sacrifices he made were not always spoken about, but they were felt in every life he touched.

He was also a man who loved to live life. Tanh was always on the go and rarely wanted to sit still for long. He enjoyed playing cards, trying his luck at the slot machines, and most of all, being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and friends. Family gatherings were special to him.

Tanh was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Toh. He is one of seven siblings. He is survived by six children: Vince, Chance, Don, Kaysone, Namone, and Soon; twelve grandchildren: Jenny, Jadon, Anna, Brandon, Angelina, Kayla, Dylan, Logan, Leon, Caylinn, Madison, and Samuel; and five in-laws: Sengmany, Deng, Cary, Steve, and Arnie.

Tanh’s life was one of courage, sacrifice, family, and love. He left his homeland with his wife and young family to face the uncertainty of starting over in a new country. Although our hearts are broken by his passing, we will forever be grateful for everything he sacrificed and every memory he left behind. He may not be here to join us around the table, play a hand of cards, or make one more trip to the slot machines, but his presence will always remain in the hearts of all who love him deeply. Gone too soon, but never forgotten. His family will carry his love, strength, and legacy with them forever.
