Sadie Mask McKinney

Sadie Adell Mask McKinney passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 90. Born on December 28, 1934, in Amarillo, she lived a life marked by faith, service, and compassion.

Sadie graduated from Texline High School in Texline, Texas, where she was a cheerleader, homecoming queen and basketball star. She later pursued business courses at Amarillo College. Her commitment to learning continued throughout her life as she engaged in ongoing continuing education in social work. This dedication to both practical skills and human understanding shaped the two distinct halves of her professional journey.

In the early years of her career, Sadie managed the business side of her husband Jim McKinney’s electrical contracting company. She became well known for her warm telephone demeanor and joyful customer service—qualities that made a lasting impression on clients and colleagues alike. Later in life, Sadie transitioned into social work, where her natural empathy and wisdom found a new outlet. She served as a social work associate with Catholic Family Services and later with Texas Tech, offering guidance and support to those navigating difficult circumstances. Her ability to listen deeply and counsel wisely made her a trusted presence in every role she held. The foundation of Sadie's life was her unwavering faith. For 65 years, she taught women’s Sunday School classes, retiring only after a mini stroke made it difficult for her to read from her beloved Bible. Through decades of teaching, she walked alongside thousands of women through seasons of faith, marriage, parenting, and grief...theirs and her own. Her spirit of servanthood extended far beyond the church walls—she was often confided in by strangers in restaurants or caregivers in hospitals even as a patient. Wherever she went, people were drawn to her kindness and insight. In earlier years, Sadie also found joy in travel and bowling—activities that brought laughter and connection into her life outside of work and ministry. Above all, she treasured her family, and always made sure they gathered often to love on one another.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Colleen “Coco” Duckworth and husband Rod; son Sterling Price McKinney; daughter Gail Malacara and husband Paul; son Clayton McKinney and wife Esther; son Clinton Wesley McKinney and wife Susan; her seven grandchildren; Jill McElroy and husband Rick, Josh Duckworth and wife Jessica, Bailey Wesley and husband Shaun, Katelyn Wedel and husband Tyler, Amy Malacara and partner Joab, Parker McKinney and wife Mira, and Griffin McKinney and wife Cadence, as well as her dearest friend Betty O’Neill. Her legacy also continues in 11 wonderful great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim McKinney and grandson Graham McKinney. As the last of her generation of the Mask family's 10 siblings and their spouses, and the mastermind of many holiday reunions, Aunt Sadie was adored by dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family extends a special thanks to the frontline caregivers at Brookdale Sleepy Hollow and Inhabit Hospice for their gentle, tender care of Sadie over the past year. Sadie’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with grace, wisdom, and love. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her and cause them to draw near to their own families.
