Roger Sherrod Arnold

October 27, 1940 — August 23, 2023

Roger Sherrod Arnold was born on October 27, 1940, in Turkey, Texas, to Roger Floyd Arnold and Dot Lacy Arnold. He traded his earthly home for his Heavenly one on August 23, 2023.

He was raised in Turkey, graduating from Turkey High School in 1959. He was an active participant in all sports, eventually spending a big portion of his life coaching.

Roger attended West Texas State University and married the love of his life, Nelda Jones on January 7, 1961.

Soon after they married, the couple moved back to Turkey to help his dad work and maintain the service station there. He eventually went back to WT and earned a Bachelor of Science degree.

Following his graduation, Roger began his coaching career in Groom, TX. He coached all sports and was instrumental in forming Groom’s first elementary PE program. After his time in Groom, Roger coached at Bonham Junior High. He then went on to become a salesman for Gillette and enjoyed a successful career as a pharmaceutical rep.

He joined Amarillo South Church, where he served as an elder. Following the church’s merge with Hillside Christian Church, he served as Care Pastor at Hillside Church. Many families experienced his faithful care, as he ministered to them in their time of need. He continued serving the Lord through this ministry, even when his health began to decline, as it brought him much joy.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, niece, Candy Wheeler, brother-in-law, Billy Wheeler, and many other precious family members.

He is survived by his bride of almost 63 years, Nelda Arnold, sister, Janice Wheeler of Turkey, sister Karen McDougal and husband Wes, of Amarillo, daughter Kelly Reams, and husband Cary of Pensacola, Florida, grandchildren Scottie Brooke Perry, and grandchildren Kodi Mathews Ladley, husband Logan, and Brady Mathews of Longmont, Colorado, 2 ½ great-grandchildren, and 10 bonus great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations be given to Caring Bridge or St. Jude’s in care of Isaiah Wood.
