Robert Paul Bergeron, 72, of Amarillo, TX, passed away on May 1, 2025. Born on Dec 26, 1952, in New Orleans, LA. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, friend and neighbor.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He achieved the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged after 8 years of service.
Dad was hard-working and dedicated. He spent over 30 years working as a nurse anesthetist, where he was known for his dedication to his patients, his masterful skills in anesthesia, and his remarkably calm demeaner in stressful situations. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and his passions.
Though Dad may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored. He was a man of generosity, compassion, and good, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Dad's hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He enjoyed backpacking in the mountains, often spending his time planning for his next adventure. His love for wood working was something he shared with his children, leaving a mark on us that will never fade.
He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Johanna, brother Kenny, and his daughter Christina. He is survived by his siblings Tom, Gwen, Angelle, and Steve; by his children Heather Lancour (Brent), Laurel Ferguson (Michael), Eric Bergeron, and Alex Bergeron (Ashley); and his grandchildren Lexi, Kai, Evan, Mirrabella, Robbie, and Nancy, as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held on May 8, 2025, at 2PM at LaGrone Backburn-Shaw on Coulter Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ACLU, a cause close to Dad's heart.
Our family would like to thank the Amarillo VA, especially his Home-Based Primary Care Team, his Hospice Team, the staff of the CLC, and his special helper Nichole.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever. He would encourage us all to think deeply and live gently and kindly.
