Ricky Thomas Perkins

Ricky Thomas Perkins was born in Portales, NM, on January 9, 1954 to Vyleta Dawdy Perkins and Roy Perkins.  He passed away at his home Monday, May 27, 2024.

 

Rick grew up in Portales and graduated from Portales High School.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minor in Data Processing from ENMU.

 

Rick married Rebecca Landis on December 27, 1975 in Clovis NM.  They moved to Amarillo in 1977 where he went to work for Diamond Shamrock.  In 1980, he went to work for SPS and remained there through company changes.  Rick retired in 2019 having enjoyed seeing technology evolve over his time there.

 

Rick and Becky’s two children were born in Amarillo.  He was very active in supporting their church, school and 4-H activities.  He especially enjoyed his grandchildren, Donnie and Rebekah, in his retirement.   He enjoyed watching Donnie play basketball and attending Rebekah’s violin concerts.  

 

Rick was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Becky), his daughter Heather Robbe (husband Jimmy), his son Ty Perkins (wife Heather), his grandson Donald Ray Robbe (Donnie) and his granddaughter Rebekah Sue Robbe all of Amarillo.  He is also survived by his bother Eldon Perkins of Hattiesburg MS, his brother Rodney Coy Perkins (wife Marietta) of Clovis NM and his sister Sue Mead of Alamogordo NM.  He is survived by his aunts, Ineta Dawdy Karttunen and Bil Dawdy Schmidt.   Surviving nieces and nephews are Paige Perkins, Jana Perkins Perry, Melissa Perkins, Richard Perkins and Laura Larson. Other relatives include his great nieces and nephews, Stetson Rains, Halie Perkins, Ryan Perkins, Cameron Perry and Duncan Larson and several cousins.  Rick was also a much-loved brother-in-law, uncle and member of Becky’s family.

 

The family will receive friends at Coulter Road Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday, June 8th, 2 to 4 pm.
