Rick “Papo” Giese, 75, of Amarillo, Texas, peacefully met the Lord Jesus on June 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Norfolk, Nebraska on September 28, 1950, he was the son of Clarence and Lou Giese. He met and fell in love with his adoring wife, Diane, before graduating from York High School in 1968. He pursued his degree at Kearney State College, while supporting his wife and working full-time.
Rick was instrumental in retail and wholesale management. He was the director of facilities at a local church, and co-manager with Diane at Yellow Pine Guest Ranch in Cuchara, Colorado. He faithfully volunteered at Grace Church, “DADS” program at Arden Road Elementary School, the Amarillo Police Department and Trinity Fellowship Church ERT.
Rick was an outdoorsman who enjoyed shooting, fishing, hunting, and off-roading – passing on his wisdom as a mentor and father figure in his own ornery way. Rick’s moral code of “leave it better than you found it” was infused into every aspect of his life.
More than anything, Rick was a servant of Jesus and of his family, who he joyfully spoiled as a selfless, loving man – trustworthy, loyal, humble and brave for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Rick was the first person you called in any situation. He served with integrity, working diligently and leading by example in all that he did while maintaining the highest standards of work ethic, saying, “If you had time to do it wrong, you had time to do it right.”
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lou Giese, and brother Terry Giese.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Diane; his children Jon (Brittainy) of Amarillo TX, Marci (Joe) Holdren of Beloit KS, and Brian (Lauren) of Amarillo TX; his 14 grandchildren Brielle (Aidan) Bianco, Blaydon, Henry, Myla, Branson, Bosco, Eva, Selma, Grace, William, Ella, Anna, Lucia, and Jana; his great-grandchildren Barclay, Stetson, and Thatcher Bianco (arriving in January 2027); his brother David (Connie) Giese, and sister-in-law Barb Giese.
