Rae A. Huenergardt

May 6, 1941 — September 11, 2018

Rae Huenergardt, 77, of Amarillo passed from this life on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 10:00 am , Friday, September 14, 2018 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel. Burial will in Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road.

Rae Agnes Engen/Huenergardt was born May 6, 1941 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. She moved with her family to Oneida, South Dakota when she was 6 years old. She graduated from Gettysburg High School. Rae attended Stewarts Beauty College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and started her practice in Cosmetology in Gettysburg. She moved to Belle Fourche in 1963 where she had a beauty salon in her home and was a very successful beautician.

One of the highlights of her life was giving birth to her son Terry Richards. She enjoyed every minute of her time raising him. Rae was always so proud of her son and it radiated from her as she spoke of him.

Rae met Harold, the love of her life and they were married in 1984. They both loved doing woodwork so started up a business called H&R Woodworks. Harold would cut and sand and Rae would draw and paint everything. They sold things all over the United States.

Another love they had was yard work. Their yard was always the envy of the neighborhood. Rae loved flowers and also spent many years doing a vegetable garden. She grew anything you could imagine and would can and process everything she grew and enjoyed sharing her harvest with the neighbors and friends.

Camping and fishing was one of their last best times together. They met so many new and interesting people on their travels, neither one of them knew a stranger in the campgrounds. Their campsite was a site to see as they laid down the rug and hung out all the lights and feeders and it looked to some like they were there for good, but that’s just how they like to create the space they lived in!

Rae probably is known to many in the community as “The Scrubby Lady”, as it didn’t matter if she had a dentist appointment or doctor appointment, everyone got scrubbies! The nurses and doctors appreciated her kind heart always!

Rae we celebrate you today and all you were and did for so many of us! Thank you and we release thoughts of happiness and gratitude up to you today! We will love you always and will delight in the good memories you left us with!!

Rae is survived by her son Terry Richards and his wife Nan, grandchildren Hailee Fitkin, Justin Richards, Israel Gonzales David Gonzales, Solome Gonzales and Naboth Gonzales, sisters Pat Kohl, Joyce Ginsel and Bonnie Kutter.
