Michael James McGlynn Sr., 74, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Memorial Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 11am at LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Road chapel. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 10-11am on Thursday
Michael was born on February 8, 1951, to James Michael McGlynn and Anne Marie Corbett McGlynn in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on the Naval Air Force Base. He grew up primarily in The Wyoming Valley, Pennsylvania and graduated high school from Wyoming Seminary in 1970. After high school, Michael enlisted in the Army Reserves and served one year and then enlisted into the United States Air Force and served 17 years as an Avionic Systems Technician. Michael married Christine McGlynn on August 14, 1981, and together they shared almost 44 years of marriage. Michael had a wide variety of hobbies and interests throughout his life, especially motorcycles. Even though he had not been able to ride them for 10 years, he received so much enjoyment out of them. He found great enjoyment from using his ham radio. Michael also loved golf and bowling, and he played in many bowling tournaments. While he never achieved his wish of hitting a perfect 300, he did come pretty close to it. Above all, he was a proud husband, father of two, stepfather to two and foster father of one.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
Survivors left to cherish Michael’s memory are his wife, Christine McGlynn; his children, Michael McGlynn Jr. and Gwendolyn Marie Stanfield; his stepchildren, Richard Sim and wife, Kristi and Grayham Sim and wife, Erin; his foster son, Geoffrey Leeder and wife, Lisa; his sisters Cheri McGlynn and Jean Dunaway and numerous grandchildren and extended family members who will miss him greatly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity of your choice.
