Obituary

Maria Patricia “Pat” Chambless was born on Thursday, September 3, 1953, to her parents, Alejandro Gutierrez, as their fifth daughter in Tucumcari, New Mexico.

Pat spent her early years in Tucumcari, where she graduated from Tucumcari High School with the class that then traveled to Amarillo, Texas, where she met her husband and the father of their children, Bill Chambless, and began their life together.

Pat worked in several front desk and administrative roles at NWTH for more than 20 years before retiring. Throughout her life, she enjoyed taking trips with her sisters, adding to her coin collection, caring for and renovating her home, watching classic movies, and listening to good music.

Pat’s secret to life was appreciating her day-to-day routines and finding joy in the simple pleasures that came along with them.

She was welcomed at the gates of Heaven on August 15, 2026, at the age of 72 by her parents, Alejandro and Eufracia Gutierrez; her baby sister and namesake, Patricia B. Gutierrez; her brother, Wilfred Gutierrez; her husband, Bill John Chambless; and her sister, Sefe Lujan.

She is survived by her three children, Raquel Linda Gonzales (husband, Juan Gonzales), Patrick Henry Chambless, and Paul Daniel Chambless; her five grandchildren, Rhiannon Nicole Sellinger, Isaiah Anthony Sellinger, Adrian Rae Sellinger, Aaron William Chambless, and Edward Elias Garza; and her sisters, Mickey Gutierrez, Fabby Mares (husband, Ambrose Mares), Theo Ortiz, Angie Rudy, Juana Lynch, and Joanna Gutierrez. She is also lovingly survived by numerous cherished in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Pat’s family will be holding an intimate memorial at the Botanical Gardens, where there will be a butterfly release in her honor.

“Back to the gypsy that I was...

To the gypsy that remains.

Her face says freedom,

with a little fear.

I have no fear,

have only love...

She is dancing away from you now.

She was just a wish...

And her memory is all that is left for you now.

You see your gypsy”

— Fleetwood Mac, 1982
