Maria Estella Camargo

August 8, 1949 — May 17, 2025

Amarillo, Texas

Maria Estella Camargo, 75, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025 surrounded by many who loved her. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 10 am at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw on Coulter.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Maria Estella Camargo, a woman whose wisdom and strength guided our family for decades. She was born August 8, 1949 in Mexico. She was a loving wife to Daniel, a devoted mother to Jose Luis, Steven, Eliseo, Linda, Lisa and Leslie. A beloved mother figure to Mason and Kaelynn, her grandchildren, who were like her children. She was a devoted sister who was like a mother to them. She was a cherished grandmother who was the bedrock of our family, always offering a steady hand and a listening ear. Her legacy of love and unwavering support will be forever etched in our hearts. She was the oldest of 16 brothers and sisters, which made her their second mama. She received her GED and then had her 3 boys. Estella then went to nursing school and received her Licensed Vocational Nurse, which was a huge accomplishment that shaped her life. She was a nurse for the next 30 years until retirement. She was the best person to call when needing any kind of medical advice. She just recently took up cinnamon tea because she heard it was good for blood sugar. She was always trying new things for the sake of health.

She found the love of her life, Daniel, and became a mother to his 3 daughters and was with Daniel for the next 35 years up to the very end. Her love for Daniel was awe-inspiring and a great example of what a marriage should be and the power of grace.

She was the cornerstone of her siblings throughout their whole lives. Being the oldest, she made it look easy to be everyone’s go-to person. She was the person to call when you needed advice or comfort. She could be seen giving to her neighbors whether it was food or homemade lemonade.

She was a woman of unwavering belief, whose love for the Lord shone through every aspect of her life. She found joy in prayer, strength in scripture, and peace in the promises of eternal life. She shared her faith through kindness, compassion, and an unyielding trust in God’s plan.

She would be the one to talk with you while drinking coffee and eating hummingbird cake. She could also be seen cooking for everyone, or in the yard picking up weeds or mowing. She loved sewing and was on a mission to make handmade aprons for all the women in the family. We knew when an animal was hers because the dog or cat would be pleasantly plump and all the animals loved her for it.

Everyone who knew her feels the tremendous loss of her presence but there is comfort knowing she is with the Lord and with all those who were waiting for her at Heaven’s Gate.

We know that we can’t have you but we’re happy knowing that the angels have finally got you back. Goodbye to a wonderful woman, a beautiful mother and a giving sister.
