Luther was born on March 23, 1963, to LD Carter and Mary Bergen in Perryton, Texas, and was raised in Guymon, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Luther later made his home in Amarillo, Texas, where he married the love of his life, April Wells. Together, they shared more than 35 years of devoted marriage. He spent 31 years as a dedicated truck driver for Affiliated Foods, faithfully serving until his health no longer allowed. Luther found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved relaxing in front of the television, especially enjoying Hogan’s Heroes, Frasier, and his favorite cartoons—shows he never tired of watching. He also adored his dogs, Oreo, Karley, and Skie, who held a special place in his heart. Above all, Luther treasured time spent traveling and visiting with his family and friends.

He will be remembered for his loyalty, his gentle spirit, and the love he poured into the people and pets who meant the most to him.

Luther was preceded in death by his parents, LD and Mary Carter; his sisters, Carol Royse and Marilyn Royse; his brother, Roy Carter; his close cousins and special hunting buddy, Jackie Brewster and Sally Turner; his aunts and uncles, Jack and Ivy Brewster and Orvil and Joyce Carter and his son, Dalton Joe Carter, who passed away on July 7, 2022 from a motorcycle accident.
