Lieu Thi Phan passed away on July 11th, 2026, at the age of 74 in her home in Amarillo, Texas surrounded by her loving family. The ultimate cause of her death was brain cancer; however, her sickness is not what defined her. Her family chooses for her to be remembered through her everlasting strength, love, faith and courage.
Born in Saigon, Vietnam to Loi Vang Phan and Ai Thi Phan on August 11th, 1952, Lieu started out her life as a street vendor selling numerous goods. Later on in her life, she would meet her lifelong partner, Lan Xuan Nguyen who she married on March 11th, 1968. Through their 58 years of marriage, they raised four exceptional children: Ngoc Xuan Nguyen, Sang Thi Thanh Nguyen, Trong Xuan Nguyen, and Thanh Xuan Nguyen. After the Vietnam war, the family braved a relocation to America for safety and a chance of a wonderful life in 1994, where they still choose to remain.
She is survived by her husband, Lan; her children Ngoc, Sang, Trong, and Thanh; her grandchildren Linda, Lester, Lena, Linh, Tien, Truc, Jimmy, Jully, Justin, Helen, Haley, Henry, Hannah, Ryan, and Ruby. She was preceded in death by her parents Loi Vang and Ai Thi Nguyen.
An enthusiastic cook, she is remembered through her love of cooking and feeding the people dear to her. Not only did she nourish their bodies, she nourished their souls through her fierce determination for success, strict yet caring approaches, and complete and utter love for her family. Even in sickness, she proved to them that a soul as strong as hers could not be stagnant; she continued to care for them, fight for them, and do everything in her power to stay for them. Through the wisdom and devotion she passed down to her family, she will be remembered in every step that they take.
