John Paul Blount 75, of Amarillo, passed away on January 24, 2024. He was born in Gruver Texas, to OR and Fay Blount on November 15, 1948.
He was in the United States Army and served two years as a helicopter mechanic in Vietnam, where he was awarded two bronze stars, Army Commendation Medal and Metal of Deployment to Vietnam. After he came back, John worked for Bell Helicopter, and later a long-haul truck driver for over 20 years. Then working for Halliburton, and returning to truck driving until he retired. In his spare time, he loved to “tinker” in his garage John could fix just about anything. He helped his daughter, Shelley remodel her house from the studs. He is also a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan.
John is survived by his son Jamie Blount, daughter Shelley Blount, grandsons Riley and Reese Blount, honorary daughter Kimberly Graham, brothers Alford (Nan) Blount, Bobby (Laura) Blount, Robert (Luann) Blount, sisters Geneva (Jim) Wheeler, Fransis (Scott) Houghton, Cora (John) Metcalf, sister in law Tammy Blount, many nieces, and nephews, As well as new and longtime friends of his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Blount of 47 years, his parents, brothers Odis Blount, Charlie Blount, sisters Eula Blount, and Joyce Blount.
