James Lloyd Doan, 76, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on August 13, 2026. Born on August 21, 1949, James grew up with a passion for design and building. He graduated from Gulf Coast College in 1970 with a degree in drafting. Following graduation, he spent 10 years working as a talented draftsman for Brown and Root Industrial Services in Houston. James returned to the Texas Panhandle following the passing of his father. For the next 34 years, he lived with and devotedly cared for his mother until her death in 2014 at the age of 91. Alongside his caregiving, James spent 20 years applying his sharp eye for detail to construction and fine cabinetry. Later, he joined Amarillo Independent School District, where he dedicated 13 years of faithful service before his retirement. Above all, James was defined by his deep devotion to Christ and his church family at Freedom Bible Church in Amarillo. He was known for his strong work ethic, craftsmanship, and selfless love for his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, W.A. Doan Jr.; mother, Levenia Doan (nee Gayler); and sister, Millie Caraway.

James is survived by his older brother, Dale Doan (Jeri) of Wildorado, Texas, and younger brother, Paul Doan (Zoe) of Amarillo, Texas.
