Grover Charles Halter, 95, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (August 25, 2026) at his residence after a brief illness.

He was born on a ranch near Two Buttes, Colorado, on Nov. 24, 1930, and was the first grandchild on either side of his family. He loved the horses that he rode and helped care for on the ranch. As he grew up, he became very close to his grandfather Grover Cleveland Halter.

Grover served four years in the Marines from 1948 to 1952 and competed as a pole vaulter for their track & field team. Upon discharge, he applied and was admitted to the University of Colorado, where he discovered his love for learning and writing.

He married Mary Snedeker in 1952, where two daughters (Christine and Lori) were born in Colorado before he moved to Peoria, Illinois in 1958 to work in the Advertising Department at the Caterpillar World Headquarters. Two sons (Peter and Steven) were then born in Peoria.

While in Peoria, Grover became an avid runner later in his life, winning many age group trophies and ran a couple times in the prestigious Boston Marathon. Prior to running, he loved to play tennis to stay active.

Mary Halter died in August 1985, with Grover loving and supporting her through her long illness.

After a successful career writing in advertising for 27 years, Grover retired from Caterpillar in late 1985 after 27 years. He soon traveled to Spain, where he lived briefly. He then lived a short time in New Mexico and eventually settled in Canon City, CO, where his family roots were. It was later that he met and married Angeles Flores. Grover and Angeles would spend many winters in her home country of Costa Rica. They lived there until 2021 when they moved to Amarillo, TX.

He has always been a writer at heart and took this up full time upon his retirement. He has written many stories, books, and award-winning play scripts. He loved many styles of music. He enjoyed speaking Spanish and visiting Spanish cultures. He also did extensive research on the family’s heritage and history.

He is survived by his wife, Angeles Flores de la Flores Parrales; two sisters: Patsy Harrison and Peggy Morris; his four children: Christine (Laz) Csesznegi, Lori (Rick) Desimone, Peter (Tammy) Halter, Steven (Jin) Halter from his previous marriage to Mary Snedeker; nine Grandchildren: Naomi Freeze, Jennifer Csesznegi, Nathan Payne, Jason Csesznegi, Jonathan Desimone, Mitchell Halter, Madison Halter, Natalie Halter, and Asia Halter; and five Great Grandchildren: Clayton Wilson, Isaac Wilson, Amaris Wilson, Owen Desimone, and Waverley Smith. Great-great-grandchildren include Oakley Wilson.
