Dora Maria Salcido, age 67, of Amarillo passed away Friday, September 6, 2013. A time to celebrate Dora's life with the family will be at the viewing on Monday, September 9, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral with Msgr. Henry Waldow officiating. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery.
Dora was born November 25, 1945 to Carlos and Genaveva (de la Fuente) Diaz in Eagle Pass, Texas, but raised her children in Amarillo, Texas. She worked for many years as a cosmetology instructor at Exposito's School of Hair Design, and later as an independent cosmetologist. She loved to cut hair and make people laugh (and sometimes cry) as she shared her life's many adventures.
Dora touched many people's lives with her kind, compassionate heart. She never turned anyone in need away. When she had little, she still gave. This is the example, the legacy of compassion that she left her children and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents and a son Carlos Angel Flores and a step son Ruben Flores.
Survivors include her two daughters Bryanna Heath and Mary and husband Ron Whittington of Amarillo. The loves of her life were her four grandchildren Emerson Bell, Katelynn Bell, Brooklynn Heath and Chloe Whittington. Also left behind are her seven sisters Mary Ford of Clarendon, Petra Diaz of Clarendon, Maria Williamson of Aubrey, Carmen Diaz of Petersburg, Goofy Mills of Lubbock and Beatrice Enevoldsen of Amarillo and three brothers Carlos Diaz of Amarillo, John Diaz of Midland and Everett Diaz of Ft. Worth. Dora also leaves many nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends. Her family and her friends were the light and the true joy of her life.
