Dee L. Escobedo 78, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 16, 2009 in Amarillo. Rosary will be said at 7:00 PM Sunday, July 19, 2009 in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 20, 2009 in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Msgr, Rex Nicholl officiating. Burial will be at 4:00 PM Tuesday, July 21, 2009 in St. James Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Rd.
Dee L. Escobedo was born December 11, 1930 in Gonzales, Texas. She married Manuel Escobedo in 1945 and had five children. In 1972 they moved to Plainview where they owned Esky’s Cocina. Later they moved to Amarillo where they owned Beef Burger on 6th St. Later they became owners of Ooh La La Lounge and La Cantina. Mrs. Escobedo retired from La Cantina in 2003 which is now owned by her daughter Wanita Mata. Dee resided here in Amarillo with Manuel, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was loved by all that knew her and was a great friend, grandmother, and mother. She will be missed by all who knew her.
