Obituary

Cynthia Ann Odom, 80, of Amarillo, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Cynthia lived a life marked by steadfast faith, quiet strength, and a deep love for others.

Cynthia was born in Amarillo on July 16, 1946, the daughter of William Dayton Chambless and Wilma Frances Brown Chambless. She grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1964. On June 15, 1968 she married the love of her life, Oris L. “Buddy” Odom, and they moved to Austin, where she graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.B.A. Together, they built a beautiful life, making their home over the years in Oklahoma, Mississippi, East Texas, and, ultimately, back in Amarillo.

Cynthia’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. Baptized as a young girl at First Baptist Church in Amarillo, she remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Bible Study Fellowship, faithfully attending and serving for decades, including many years as a discussion leader. Cynthia and Buddy are members of Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Her faith was not simply something she professed, but something she lived—evident in the quiet, steady, and generous way she loved, served, encouraged, and cared for those around her.

Affectionately known to her family as Cynnie and Grammie, Cynthia found her greatest joy in the people she loved. She had a gift for making others feel cared for and at home. An excellent cook, she loved preparing meals for her family and bringing everyone together around the table. She was also a gifted quilter and enjoyed sewing, creative pursuits that brought her much joy over the years. She had a special fondness for chickens and roosters, collecting them in all forms and taking great delight in keeping a flock of her own—a sweet and memorable reflection of her personality. Cynthia will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Wilma Chambless.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Oris L. “Buddy” Odom of Amarillo; her daughter, Allison Baskett and husband Jeremy of Amarillo, and their children, Parker Baskett, Knox and Evie Parker; her son, Travis Odom and wife Elizabeth of Amarillo, and their children, Grace, Liam, and Grady Odom; and her sister, Judith Buller and husband Jim of Yukon, Oklahoma.
