Chithanong Kongdara, 81, of Amarillo died on Sunday, January 30, 2022. Chithanong was born on June 18, 1940 in Laos. He served in the Laos Royal Army for 22 years. He married Khammek Chanthapanya in 1966 and migrated to the United States in 1980 and began the “American Dream”. He worked at Tyson until retiring after 27 years. Chithanong served on the Board of Directors of the Lao community and Wat Lao Buddharam of Amarillo. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and enjoyed woodworking during his spare time. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Khammek Kongdara; four sons, Mek Kongdara and wife Mali; Neth Kongdara, Deth Kongdara, Sim Kongdara and wife April; one daughter, Khammanihack Kongdara; ten grandchildren, Brendan, Tanner, Jayden, Kaitlyn, Sydney, Tara, Austin, Baylee, Skylar, Mason and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Thursday, February 3, 2022 at LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home, 1505 Martin Road, Amarillo. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, February 4, 2022 at the LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel. Cremation will follow at Memory Gardens Crematory.
