Carlos Tijerina

Carlos Tijerina of Amarillo passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the age of 69.

He was born on November 3, 1954 in Haskell, Texas to Lionicio and Gabina Tijerina. The Tijerina family moved to Vernon in 1966 where Carlos and his siblings all completed high school. During Carlos’s time in Vernon, he assumed the responsibility of caring for his younger siblings alongside his mother. He played high school football and graduated from Vernon High School in 1973. Carlos was a devoted son to his mother and embraced the role of being Uncle Carlos to all his nieces and nephews. Carlos enjoyed watching football. He was lovingly known as a devoted Dallas Cowboys fanatic. He had a passion for classic cars. Carlos was also delighted in maintaining his yard. Carlos knew no strangers and was a kind friend, willing helper, and loving caregiver to all. His sense of humor and kindness will be missed by all.

Carlos was preceded in death by his father Lionicio, and his younger brother Angel Tijerina of Amarillo.

He is survived by his mother Gabina Tijerina of Amarillo, his sister Dora Hernandez of Amarillo, Irene Comstock of Wichita Falls, Abelina Rivers of Wichita Falls, and many nieces and nephews.
