Carlis (Carl) Wayne Mooney of Amarillo, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 27. Carl was born on July 13, 1939, in Velma, Oklahoma to William Forrest Mooney and Jenny Blankenship Mooney. He grew up primarily in Duncan, OK and Borger, TX. 

After high school, and while at Frank Phillips College, he met Judy Lee, and they began a lifetime together. Carl and Judy married on December 25, 1960. After 4 years in the Navy, they returned to Borger. where he enjoyed a long and successful career of over 35 years with J.M Huber in the carbon black division. 

After his “retirement” Carl spent more time pursuing his passion for golf and traveling with his wife and friends. Carl’s passion for golf was passed on to his children and others. In retirement he often spent time helping others with home repairs or projects because he always wanted “some project” to work on. Never one to shy away from strangers, Carl enjoyed meeting new people, and sometimes learning their life story, while working at local convenience store drive-thru’s the last 4 or 5 years in Amarillo.  

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers-Bill Mooney and Johnny Mooney, and one sister Naomi Fox. 

He is survived by his wife Judy of the home, son David, and wife Cydne, of Amarillo; daughter Kathy Calloway, and husband Chris, of Robson Ranch, TX; 3 grandchildren: Christen Calloway, of Grand Rapids, MI, Aidan Mooney, and wife Brooke, of Amarillo and Alison Shira, and husband Justin, of Midwest City, OK and 4 great grandchildren: Taylor Autry, Madison Mooney and Cameron Mooney, and Reagan Shira. He is also survived by his siblings Marvin Mooney, and wife Sherry, of Tulsa; Danny Mooney, and wife Sandra, of Grove, OK; Linda Tiller, and husband Ed, of Pigeon Forge, TN, and Virginia Cannon, and husband Mike, of Lindsay, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Amarillo or BSA Hospice of the Southwest.
