Hazel M. Offield, 81, of Amarillo died on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Mrs. Offield was born Hazel M. Brown on March 19, 1935 in Shamrock and was the oldest daughter of Beauford and Alta Brown. She grew up on the family farm east of Shamrock and did her share of farm work. She believed that her work contributions helped her to have a good work ethic later in life. She graduated from Shamrock High School and then moved to Wichita Falls where she attended Midwestern University and worked as a telephone operator.

She married Carl Offield on April 3, 1964 and they moved to Amarillo in 1968 where she began her career with Wiley Hicks Construction as their office manager for over forty years. Hazel was known in the construction industry throughout the Amarillo area where she devoted many hours to helping sub contractors with Government paperwork and answering their questions. She was instrumental in helping form and working with the Women in Construction Organization during their rein where she held the office of Treasurer.

Hazel was a loving and caring Mother and devoted herself to many activities that her daughter was involved in while growing up. She was very proud of her daughter and her accomplishments. Hazel worked in the PTA, Girl Scouts, and helped with twirling competitions and beauty pageants throughout Texas and Oklahoma where she received numerous awards for her outstanding contributions.

The "apple of her eye" was her two grandchildren, Braden and Uriah. She cherished the moments they could spend together. She was truly a devoted Mother and Grandmother. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook and got great pleasure out of cooking and giving food to her friends. She enjoyed cooking for her daughter's parties and the family always said that there was nothing that she could not cook but her specialty was pastries. Hazel was very close to her sister and she had a special place in her heart and she was always there for her when she needed advice.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother in law.

She is survived by a daughter, Jan Garcia and husband Joseph; a sister, Linda Hughes of Glen Rose; two grandsons, Braden Beard and Uriah Garcia; two nephews, Mike Hughes of Glen Rose and Alan Hughes of Tennessee and two great nieces, Kylie and Kayla Hughes of Burleson.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:30 - 7:00 pm, Friday, March 10, 2017 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter.
