Gary R. Smith, 75, of Amarillo passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, February 11, 2017. No services are planned at this time. A private inurnment ceremony will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Street.
Gary was born in Pampa, Texas and raised in Lefors, Texas. He graduated from West Texas State University and served in Law Enforcement for seventeen years as well as serving in the Army National Guard. Gary was a life long horseman. He enjoyed spending time with his animals and he loved his music and Harleys.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Vada and George Smith, a brother Mike Smith and a sister Aletha Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-eight years, Helen; his children, Mark Cruz and wife Theresa, of Amarillo, JoAnn Cruz, of Amarillo, Rodney Smith, of Lufkin, Holly Tyree and husband Phil, of Tulsa, Michael Cruz and wife Shauna, of Amarillo, Jim Smith and wife Shana, of Crowell; thirteen cherished grandchildren and a dog Lucy.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to BSA Hospice of the Southwest.
