Donna Jean Baker, 67, of Amarillo died on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Funeral Service will be at 2:00pm, Saturday March 11, 2017, in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Pastor Scott Raines officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Street.

Donna was born October 4, 1949 in Pampa to Robert H. and Billie Imogene LaVerne James. She grew up in Pampa and graduated from Pampa High School in 1968. Donna married James “Jim” Baker on February 22, 1968 and moved to Germany. The couple moved to Amarillo in 1970, then over to Oklahoma City for 22 years, down to Sulphur OK in 1992, then back to Amarillo in 1998. Donna loved kids of all ages. She operated a daycare in her home for many years. Donna was a paraprofessional for 2 years in Davis, OK helping handicapped and special needs children. She then worked at Boy’s Ranch for 7 ½ years and at the Children’s Home for 3 years before becoming disabled. Donna loved art projects of any kind and her cocker spaniel, “Chloe.” She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Donna is survived by her husband, Jim; her son, James Michael Baker; her father, Robert James, all of Amarillo; a sister, Jo Ann Syring and husband Dennis of Denison; a sister-in-law, Patti Stewart and husband Nick of Hays, KS and three brothers-in-law, William Edward Baker of Amarillo, Barney G. Baker and wife Rose of Knoxville, TN and Walter H. Baker and wife Connie of Amarillo.

Donna was preceded in death by her mother, Billie James and a nephew, David Syring.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be sent to Amarillo SPCA, 11901 S. Coulter, Amarillo, TX. 79119

The family will accept guests and friends Friday from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home.
