Celso Martinez, 95, of Quitman, Arkansas, former Amarillo resident, died on Friday, June 16, 2017. Holy rosary will be said at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel. Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in Our lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1210 SE 11th Street with Father Jose Gomez as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road.

Celso was born on September 12, 1921 to Severino and Eloisa Martinez in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. He married Antonina in Amarillo. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years as a track laborer until his retirement. Celso moved to Quitman in 1997. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Antonia, two sisters, Alice Romero and Rebecca Rumbugh and three brothers, Pablo Martinez, Arthur Martinez and Benito Martinez.

Mr. Martinez is survived by his niece, Marie H. Schoolcraft and husband, David; a sister, Percilla Mota and husband Abellino; a brother, Guadalupe Martinez and wife Alma; several step children and numerous nieces and nephews.
