Buck Clary

February 22, 1939 - September 16, 2017

Buck Clary died peacefully and went to his heavenly home Saturday, September 16, 2017. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 in Hillside Christian Church West Chapel with Pastor Mike Nuthman and Jim McKee officiating.

Buck was born in Abilene on February 22, 1939 to Ewing M. "Buck" Clary, Sr. and Ruth Reddell Clary. The family moved to Lubbock when Buck was young and he was in the first graduating class at Monterey High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Texas Tech University where he played the french horn with the Goin' Band from Raider Land. He obtained his Masters degree at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He had a long career in banking, and had been with Amarillo National bank since 1988.

He was a great lover of classical music - especially Mozart - and deeply appreciated beautiful, trained voices. He obtained his single engine private pilot's license at age sixteen, and constructed two home-built airplanes. Buck also had a passion for street rod cars and was a member of several local car clubs. Buck grew up in the Baptist church, and developed a very firm, deep belief in God's grace. He attended Hillside Christian church West in Amarillo. Buck was generous to a fault - but always anonymously - and prided himself in living his life following the tenet of his favorite word, "enigma". Buck's tender side was openly displayed when it came to his passion for loving on and caring for rescuer dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a younger brother, Bob, who died at the age of nine; as well as many good friends and aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, of the home; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Hatfield of Midland; two brother-in-laws, Biff Hatfield and wife Shauneen of Amarillo and Rick Hatfield and wife, Diane of Odessa; a sister, Nancy Davis of Ft. Worth; and dear friend and mentor, Van White of Shallowater; five nephews and one niece; as well as his "adopted" little sister, Nicki Sanders; and "adopted" daughter, Teresa Hodge.

The family requests no flowers so In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Buck's name to the Capital campaign for Meals on Wheels of Amarillo, 210 S.W. 7th Avenue, Amarillo 79101 or to the Animal Rescue Shelter, Inc. at 12500 FM Road 1541, Amarillo 79118.
